Watercolor differs from other paint media. The paintings like to evolve organically, and in some sense create themselves — using the artist as a medium to come into being. The transparency of watercolor gives it a special magic when layers are added, and the nature of water requires the artist to give up a degree of control and work with what the water and paper want to do. The results are a true partnership between the artist and the medium. Learning to listen to what the water, paint, and paper are saying is a daily mediative act for me that grounds me in the here and now.
